Valley Water Chair Linda J. LeZotte statement on $57 million in Measure AA funds awarded to South San Francisco Bay Shoreline Project

Today the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority awarded Valley Water $57 million dollars over five years from Measure AA, the San Francisco Bay Clean Water, Pollution Prevention and Habitat Restoration Measure. The money will help complete construction of the first phase of the South San Francisco Bay Shoreline Project (Shoreline Project).

The Shoreline Project will safeguard hundreds of homes, schools, critical infrastructure and businesses along Santa Clara County’s shoreline from the risk of tidal flooding. It will also create an opportunity to restore vital ecosystems for a variety of threatened and endangered species and enhance recreational opportunities.

Today’s action by the Restoration Authority shows their commitment to funding innovative projects that will help protect our communities from sea level rise, as a result of climate change.

Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, an advanced recycled water purification center, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 285 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and 333 miles of waterways. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County.
