On April 1-3, Vice Chair Nai Hsueh led a Valley Water delegation trip to Washington, D.C., to advocate for Santa Clara County residents’ interests with the administration and Congress. Vice Chair Hsueh and staff advocated for several high-priority projects and initiatives in 24 meetings with members and staff of Valley Water’s congressional delegation, congressional committee staff, and federal agency leadership.
The top priorities discussed included securing additional funding for the feasibility study on Phase II of the South San Francisco Bay Shoreline Project; continued support and funding for the Upper Guadalupe River Flood Protection Project; construction funding for the Upper Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project; and funding and support for the proposed Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project. The delegation also advocated for increased federal funding for recycled water, which is needed to support expansion of Valley Water’s recycled and purified water projects.
Valley Water makes two annual trips to Washington, D.C., to advocate for priority projects and programs that benefit the residents of Santa Clara County. These trips are significant opportunities for the Board and leadership to meet directly with federal appointed and elected officials and advocate for the important water projects that benefit the people and environment of our county. In addition, these trips provide opportunities for federal officials to hear from Board members and staff about the importance of continued federal support for Valley Water’s critical flood protection, water supply, and environmental stewardship efforts.
The Board will lead the next delegation trip to Washington in the fall.
