2015 Summer Internship application period is Feb. 23 - 27, 2015

The Santa Clara Valley Water District offers a limited number of paid summer internship opportunities ($15 per hour)
in various disciplines, such as: 

  • Accounting
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Finance
  • Geology
  • Human Resources
  • Hydrology/Hydrography
  • IT and Computer Science Technology
  • Planning (Environmental/Urban)
  • Political Science

The duration of this summer internship program is between June and August each year and exposes interns to jobs related to the student’s courses of study. In addition, interns receive professional development training, including attending a meeting of the district Board of Directors, networking events, feedback from a mentor, and even a visit to one of our water treatment plants.

This program is designed to broaden the intern’s knowledge of the Santa Clara Valley Water District and how we serve our community. To ensure the Summer Internship Program remains beneficial to the district and interns, ongoing feedback will be solicited on the program’s effectiveness which will help improve the program for future participants.

Internship opportunities are available in three business areas of the district: Administration, Water Utility and Watersheds.

Eligibility

In addition to being bright, ambitious and passionate about exploring a desired career path, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level community college or college/university program 
  • Be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible to participate in the program
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher 
  • Provide proof of legal right to work in the United States
  • Pass a pre-employment screening process to include reference checks and a background/security check
  • Be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer internship program (June to August)

Application Process

  1. Apply online Feb. 23-27, 2015
    • 
    Complete the online Employment Application (required). There will be a link to the online application beginning Feb. 23. 
    Note: In the work experience section of the online application, school projects, volunteer and extracurricular activities may be included in lieu of work experience.
    • Complete the online supplemental questionnaire (required)
    • Attach unofficial transcript(s) from all institutions attended to the online application (required)
    • Attach a résumé to the online application (optional)

Additional Information

  • Approximate number of internship openings: 25
  • Pay Rate: $15 per hour
  • Participation in the Summer Internship Program does not automatically guarantee full-time employment 
  • The district does not provide medical benefits, vacation pay, or holiday pay


Internship Placement

  • Internship placements will take place within the Water Utilities, Watersheds or Administration Division at the district in the intern’s chosen industry. Examples of internship placements based on the field of study/major.
