Outdoor Classrooms

Alamitos Outdoor Classroom

Grades: 3+

Located at District Headquarters and adjacent to the Guadalupe River, the Alamitos Outdoor Classroom features a trail around a percolation pond, an operating dam and fish ladder, an outdoor weather station, and a nature labyrinth.

Field trips here include a groundwater demonstration, urban runoff display, wetland food chain game, and Enviroscape activity.

Coyote Creek Outdoor Classroom

Address: 791 Williams Street, San Jose 95112

Grades: 4+

The Coyote Creek Outdoor Classroom rests on a site where massive flooding destroyed three homes in 1997.

The tour and interactive lessons focus on natural stream habitat, our groundwater supply and monitoring system, watershed stewardship, and the importance of native, drought-tolerant plants to support local wildlife.

Edith Morley Park Outdoor Classroom

Address: 615 Campbell Technology Parkway, Campbell 95008

Grades: 3+

In 2000, the Santa Clara Valley Water District and City of Campbell worked together to establish a beautiful 5-acre park adjacent to the McGlincey Percolation Ponds.

Visitors enjoy trails, a large grass area, oak upland habitat, a marshland, wildflower gardens, and picnic tables. The tour includes a selection of activities that focus on watersheds, groundwater, urban runoff, wetlands, and water quality testing.

Alviso Outdoor Classroom

Address: 2040 Gold Street, Alviso 95002

Grades: 3+

Located at the mouth of the Guadalupe River at Alviso Slough, the Alviso Outdoor Classroom features a gazebo, picnic tables, and interpretive displays exhibiting Alviso’s colorful history.

Tours here focus on where our water comes from, watershed stewardship, and the importance of wetlands in San Francisco Bay.
